YOUNGSVILLE — Nathan Lucks struck out seven Iroquois Braves to lead the Youngsville Eagles to a 9-6 Region 3 baseball victory Monday.

The Eagles started off strong, allowing no runs in the opening frame.

When the Eagles (8-7, 6-7) got the chance to bat they made sure to get on the scoreboard. In quick fashion, Matt DeSimone got a hit followed by Keegan Mesel connecting with the ball to bring in DeSimone. Then, Nathan Lucks came up to bat and decided he was going to bring Mesel home as well.

The next two innings, Iroquois battled back, outscoring the Eagles 3-1. James Johnson drove one deep for the Eagles to try to send in Ian Mancuso, but two Braves dove at the last second to come up with the out.

After the Braves (4-13, 4-12) scored two runs in the third inning, Lucks decided he had had enough and finished the inning off with a strikeout.

In the fourth inning, the Eagles reclaimed the win driving in three runs, adding another one in the fifth, and then exchanging two runs with Iroquois in the sixth.

Johnson came in to pitch the seventh inning and made sure all three outs came from his arm in the former of strikeouts.

“James Johnson at the end there striking out the side in the seventh inning was big for his confidence going into (today’s) game against Cochranton,” Youngsville head coach Eddie Dorunda said.

The Eagles close their regular season home against Cochranton today and Saegertown on Wednesday before traveling to Cambridge Springs on Thursday.

“Everything went as planned tonight to help set us up for the rest of the week,” Dorunda said.
