Warren track & field keeps busy at invites
Warren track and field athletes were busy on Friday and Saturday with a group competing in Altoona and the rest of the team in Oil City.
At the Altoona Mountain Lion Track and Field Classic, senior Katie Beyer finished first in the 1,600-meter run, and sixth in the 800; Laney Gatto was second in the 200 and third in the 100; Lindsay Madigan third in the 400 and fifth in the 100; Shyann Rulander fourth in the 3,200; and Gracie Gatto fifth in the 400.
“Altoona was a fun meet to go to for some different competition with a few kids,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “It was cold and rained the whole day, but that didn’t stop our group from performing well and getting a host of personal bests on the season.”
Punxsutawney won the Class 2A girls’ team event with Warren fifth out of 18 teams scoring.
Ethan Best was fifth in the 110 hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles in the 3A boys’ meet.
At the 33rd Annual Oil Country Invitational at Oil City High School, top Warren finishes for the Lady Dragons included Alexia Bowers’ third-place finish in the 300 hurdles; and fourth-place by Charlotte Keeports in the 1,600 and Lindsay Madigan in high jump. For Warren’s boys’ finishers, Sam Lindell was fourth and Hugh Harrison sixth in the 1,600.
“Oil City Invite started off cold and windy and ended a little nicer,” stated Dustin. “Our group added more medals and Alexia Bowers qualified for districts in the 300 hurdles. This was a long week for the Dragons getting meets moved around and some kids having to compete two to three days in a row. They did great and we are looking to close out the season with more district qualifiers (this) week.”
