Warren track teams split with visiting Oilers

- Warren’s Gracie Gatto leads teammate Kirsten Johnson by a slight margin in the 400 on Wednesday at War Memorial Field.
Warren’s girls track team picked up a win and the Dragons boys lost a close one against visiting Oil City on Wednesday at War Memorial Field.
The Lady Dragons won 83-57 off the strength of two individual wins by Laney Gatto (100 in 13.46 and 200 in 28.27), two by Shyann Rulander (1,600 in 5:43.45 and 3,200 in 12:56.87), and two by Lindsay Madigan (long in 16-7 1/2 — the same distance as Gatto — and triple jump in 35-2). Katie Beyer won the 800 (2:35.74, just edging Kirsten Johnson’s 2:35.84) and finished second in the 1,600, and Gracie Gatto won another 400 (1:06.65, also just edging Johnson’s 1:06.95). Warren’s girls also won two relays.
“Our girls came away with a good win today,” said Warren track coach Kevin Dustin. “Our boys lost a close one (falling 73-68). Oil City is a strong team and we couldn’t pick up enough points for the boys to pull off a win.”
Graham Carr won the 800 (2:14.96) for Warren’s boys team, and Ethan Best won the 110 hurdles in 17.20 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 43.68. Cole Johnson won high jump, Justice Greene shot and Ricky Madril javelin.
“We had some good performances and are looking forward to Saturday’s invitational at Slippery Rock to face some tough competition,” said Dustin.
