CORRY -- Warren fell short of its second win in as many days to open the season, falling 8-6 on Tuesday.
The Dragons outhit the Beavers, 15-3, but couldn't overcome 12 walks.
"Super proud of the effort," said Warren coach Andrew Morrison, whose Dragons are 1-1. "We told the boys after the game, this proves we can play with anyone in the region. I think this is the kind of game a young team can really grow from.
"Offensively we were great -- 15 hits is almost always enough to win you a game," he said. "We made a few mistakes mentally on the bases, unfortunately that can happen with a young team. The good news is every mistake we made is fixable.
Archie (Teconchuk) is a good pitcher who had an off day. Everything he throws moves. When he is consistently in the zone, he is tough to hit. He will bounce back. Carson Farr showed a ton of guts to come on in his first varsity action and give us four-plus great innings. We are super proud of him. Aidan Zdarko, as a sophomore, got us a huge pitch in the sixth as well."
Paul Smith and Konnor Hoffman had three hits each for the Dragons and JT Blum, Gio Elinsky and Anthony Errett two apiece. Elinsky and Smith both reached base four times, and Errett had two RBI.
"Back at it again tomorrow at Harbor Creek," said Morrison. "Three region games in a row is a grind, but we are thrilled to be playing."
