Sheffield boys track win, girls split in tri-meet

The Wolverine boys would sweep, and the girls would split against Northern Potter (102-25) and Oswayo Valley (56-83) Tuesday evening in a tri-meet at Northern Potter High School.

The boys 4×100 meter relay team of Isaiah Townsend, Landon McNeal, Leihden Wotorson, and Lucas McNeal continued their dominance clocking a 50.92s win.

“The handoffs have all been great,” said Sheffield head coach Jason Snell. “They were getting a faster time every run until we ran on the cindered track at Northern Potter. I look for them to definitely get into the 46’s, soon and the 45’s by the end of the season. They are definitely growing more comfortable and confident.

Townsend also took first in the 400 meters (12.32s), and McNeal took first in high jump and triple jump. Gage Mott-Macalush won the 110 hurdles (20.99s) and shot-put throwing 36’8”. Dylan Hardwick took the 300 hurdles with a 52.88s time. Danah Campbell took home the discus crown hitting 98’10.5″ and Brian Greer rounded out the throwing event victories with a 114′ throw in Javelin. The boys defeated Northern Potter 98-39 and Oswayo Valley 114-21.

On the girls’ side, Lexi Goldthwaite won the 100 hurdles with a time of 19.84s with freshman Lilly Benton close behind in second with a 20.8s. Goldthwaite also won the triple jump (27′ 7.5″) and was part of the 4×100 meter relay team (1:04.5s) with Kadence Steffan, Lilly Benton, and Emily Foster. Foster won the high jump (5’1″). Lanette Howard and Benton came in first and second in the 300 hurdles with only .11 seconds separating their times.

Sheffield will travel to Smethport on April 21.
