The Sheffield boys fell to Coudersport 93-53, but dominated Cameron County 125-9, while the Lady Wolverines lost both their matchups, 106-39 to the Falcons and 80-59 to the Red Raiders.
Gage Mott-Macalush took first overall in the 110 hurdles running a 19.9. Mott-Macalush's discus throw of 91 feet, 3 inches was enough to beat Cameron County, but fell short of Coudersport's Sam Ayers' winning throw of 113-6. Lucas McNeal had another dominating evening, winning four events. McNeal cleared 5-8 to take first in the high jump and launched himself 36-8 to win the triple jump. McNeal's 17-10 long jump was enough to knock off both Coudersport and Cameron County. He also helped the Wolverines 4×100 relay team qualify for districts, running a 47.1. Other members rounding out the 4×100 are Leihdon Wotorson, Landon Mead and Isaiah Townsend. Townsend also won the 400, with a time of 46.7.
"He's back to his dominating fashion," said Sheffield head coach Jason Snell. "Obviously, we want to get some district qualifying leaps out of him."
Despite the team losses for the Lady Wolverines, Emily Foster continued her strong start to the season, winning the high jump (5-10). Lilly Benton was the only other Sheffield first place, taking the 300 hurdles with a time of 1:03.2.
"We're usually strong in the lower sprints and throwing," said Snell. "Hurdles has been a strong point for us this year."
Sheffield will compete at the Fort LeBoeuf Invitation on Saturday where Snell hopes the tougher competition pushes some of his top athletes to obtain district qualifying times.
