Twenty Dragons — 10 boys and 10 girls — are set to embark on a trip Friday and Saturday to the District 10 Championships at the S.P.I.R.E. Institute Olympic-style pool in Geneva, Ohio.
They aren’t just happy to be there.
“I think records will be set and medals will be awarded,” said Warren head coach Russ Beyer. “I also think that we will have a good contingent going to states.”
First thing’s first, there are six events in which a Warren swimmer or relay is seeded first.
The winners of each event automatically advance to the March 16-19 PIAA meet at Bucknell University in Lewisburg.

“The kids are hungry for some glory and accolades,” said coach Beyer. “Seniors Katie Beyer, Derek Hahn, Max Harrison and Graham Carr will lead the charge.”
Beyer is Warren’s only top seed in the D10 Class 2A girls meet.
After winning her second straight D10 title, Beyer was seeded third in last season’s PIAA 200-yard freestyle, but became a state champ with a time of 1:53.06 that was more than a half-second faster than her district time.
This year, Beyer is a comfortable top seed for that same event on Friday at S.P.I.R.E. Her qualifying time is 1:55.93 to the 1:59.49 of Villa Maria’s Gracie Girts.
Beyer is also the second seed in the 100 free, less than a second off the seed time of Villa’s Haley Palmer.

“The team has worked extremely hard this season and now the payoff begins,” said coach Beyer. “The postseason started with 12 events where a Warren Dragon teammate or relay was seeded first or second. Katie Madigan defended her D10 diving title to begin what should be a very successful weekend.”
No less than five Warren swimmers or relays are seeded first in the D10 3A boys meet. Big brother and senior Max Harrison is the top seed at 50 free in 22.24 seconds and in the 100 free at 49.64 seconds.
Little brother and sophomore Hugh Harrison is the defending D10 champion as a freshman in the 200 individual medley at 2:02.03. His seed time is nearly eight seconds faster than McDowell second-seed Camden Pierce.
Hugh Harrison is also the top seed in the 100 backstroke by over four seconds; he comes in at 53.27 with second-seeded Nick Publicover of McDowell at 57.82 seconds.
These are Warren swimmers who have a bunch of school- and pool-record times, but the talent doesn’t end there.

The Harrison boys also team with Graham Carr and Derek Hahn for the top seed in the 400 free relay event.
Top-five seeds for the Warren boys include Derek Hahn, second, and Jarod Peterson, fourth, in the 100 butterfly; Hahn, third in the 200 IM; Graham Carr, fourth, and Cristian Johnson, fifth, in the 100 back; Carr, fourth in the 50 free; and Connor Fehlman, third in the 500 free and fifth in the 100 breaststroke.
“My expectations are that the kids will represent Warren in a competitive and respectful manner,” said coach Beyer, “and if they win a title, then that is icing on the cake.”
