Eisenhower quiets Youngsville’s upset hopes

YOUNGSVILLE -- The Eisenhower Knights traveled to Youngsville on Wednesday night fresh off of their big win Tuesday over Saegertown and beat the Eagles 50-39.
The homestanding Eagles took full advantage of the Knights playing on back-to-back nights, jumping out to a 15-11 before Youngsville's Nathan Curry drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give his team an 18-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
"You have to give Youngsville a lot of credit, they came out ready to play," Eisenhower head coach Ryan Mangini said. "It was a great battle tonight for sure. It always is when we line up against them. It's what a rivalry should be."
The Knights began to chip away at the Eagles lead, outscoring them 10-6 in the second quarter to make it 24-21 at halftime.
Eisenhower began to heat up in the third quarter as the Knights went on a 15-6 run and were aggressive on the boards to take away the Eagles' second-shot opportunities.
"I thought Kris Bunk and Wyatt Lookenhouse really had a good game for us underneath," Mangini said. "When we needed them to step up they did and that helped take away their shot opportunities."
The Eagles clawed their way back to make it a four-point game with 3:22 left, but were forced to foul down the stretch.
"It's always tough playing back to back, but I thought our guys kept chipping away at the lead and never panicked at the half," Mangini said. "I thought they played very disciplined offense in the second half. It was a great team win. I'm proud of the way we played."
The Knights were led by Lookenhouse with 13 points and Curt Darling with 12 while the Eagles were led by Kobe Hendrickson with 15.
