Warren claims first mat victory
Warren improves to 1-4 in dual matches on the young season after a 51-18 win over Erie High on Friday at Warren Area High School.
“We wrestled pretty well tonight,” said Warren coach Ted Carrington of the Region 5 victory. “Josh Letko wrestled a tough match against his opponent.
“Josh really showed why we don’t quit wrestling. With short time on the clock in the first period, Josh gave up a takedown but answered back with just a couple seconds left. He didn’t let the takedown bother him; chain wrestling we call it.”
Letko came away with an 8-2 decision at 132 pounds to give Warren a 9-6 lead.
“Grant Heeter continues to improve and dominate his opponents with his arm bar,” added Carrington. “Grant found something he likes and he runs it.”
Heeter’s first-period pin at 152 pounds upped Warren’s lead to 21-12.
“Tristan Dolan came up with a pin (at 215),” said Carrington. “Tristan stepped out of his comfort zone and hit a knee pick and took his opponent to his back. Once Tristan clamps down on someone, they aren’t getting up. He is an extremely powerful young man.”
Warren received six forfeit wins.
