Fast start lifts Ike to victory

RUSSELL — Wyatt Lookenhouse scored the first 10 points, Eisenhower led 25-4 after the first quarter and and the Knights breezed to a 57-29 boys basketball victory over Iroquois on Friday night.

Lookenhouse finished with 21 points and Curt Darling added 13 for the winners, who led 42-9 at halftime.

“Wyatt’s hot shooting and the team’s unselfish play got us off to a great start,” Eisenhower coach Ryan Mangini said. “We talked about before the game about playing disciplined basketball and that’s exactly what we did. Our defense, particularly Curt Darling holding their leading scorer to just 9 points, set the tone for us defensively.”

The PIAA running-clock rule took effect in the second half, which gave Mangini the opportunity to give his reserves some playing time.

“I was happy with their effort. I think it opened up their eyes to the speed of the varsity game, but overall I thought they played well,” Mangini said.

The Knights also won the junior varsity game, 36-34. Jayden Chase had 10 points and Mayan Wondering added 9.
