Warren posts sweep over Meadville in region meet

MEADVILLE — Warren’s swimming and diving teams left Meadville with a Region 3 sweep on Monday.

Katie Beyer and Kirsten Johnson had two wins each in the Lady Dragons’ 90-71 win. Warren’s boys won 10 events in a 109-40 victory.

Hugh Harrison won the 200-yard freestyle, 100 back and was on the winning 200 medley relay and 400 free relay with Max Harrison, Derek Hahn, and Graham Carr.

Max Harrison won both the 50 and 100 free and Hahn the 200 IM and 100 butterfly.

“Graham Carr had a big time drop in the 200 IM,” said Warren coach Russ Beyer. “He bested his previous time by four seconds. Graham also swam 100 butterfly for the first time and did fantastic, only four seconds away from districts. Jarod Peterson also had a personal best in the 100 fly. He too broke the 1:10 barrier.”

Brody Alexander took the 100 breaststroke and was on the winning 200 free relay with Ethan Monroe, Cristian Johnson and Connor Fehlman.

“Meadville was not at full strength, due to contact tracing,” said Coach Beyer. “The kids really performed well.

“Maddie Walker finally eclipsed the 100 backstroke district time,” he said. “She has been so close over the last couple of meets. You could really see in her eyes that she accomplished a feat.

“Sam Caudill was closer in her two events,” said Coach Beyer. “In both the 200 free and the 100 breast combined, she was a total of .50 seconds (off).”

Katie Beyer’s first-place finishes came in the 200 free and 100 fly, and Johnson in the 200 IM and 100 back to lead Warren’s girls.

The 200 medley relay team of Johnson, Sara Sokolski, Summer Lucks and Sophie Olson finished first.

Izabelle Heacox won the diving event.

“Our Lady Dragon divers each set their personal best,” said Warren diving coach Matt Madigan. “Izzy Heacox took first place with a 194.40 and qualified for districts. Alexia Bowers took a second place with a 123.75.”

The Dragons also swept Bradford on Friday.

In Warren’s 103-41 boys win, Max Harrison won the 50-yard freestyle and 100 free, Hugh Harrison won the 100-yard back and 200 IM, Hahn won the 200 free and 100 fly, and Peyton Haight won the 500 free and Alexander the 100 breaststroke.

Carr joined the Harrisons and Hahn for the 400 free relay and 200 medley relay wins.

The Lady Dragons won, 99-51. Beyer won the 50 free and 500 free, Johnson won the 100 back and 200 IM, Olson claimed the 100 free, Lucks won the 100 fly, and Samantha Caudill captured the 200 free. Johnson, Beyer, Lucks and Sokolski won the 200 medley relay, and Beyer, Lucks, Johnson and Olson captured the 400 free relay.
