Eight Knights and seven Dragons received region all-star honors this week.

Eisenhower finished third in Region 3, but defeated second-place Cambridge Springs, 2-1, in the D10 1A quarterfinals.

Senior midfielders Katie Elmquist and Megan Strausser, junior forward Cassie Smelko, and senior fullback Lily Mueller were voted to the Region 3 first team for Eisenhower (11-5-1).

Junior mid Elley Eastman, sophomore mid Julia Gesing, sophomore fullback Peyton Frank, and senior defender Ava Nizzi made the second team.

“I am so very excited for the Eisenhower girls that made Region 3 All-Stars teams,” said Ike coach Diana Elmquist. “They have worked so hard not only in season but in the off-season as well, and it is a tremendous honor that the coaches in the region recognized our girls as leaders in the field. I am proud to have their hard work recognized!”

After Warren’s 3rd straight District 10 3A title, the Dragons — coming from a region that included state qualifiers McDowell and Bradford — placed one on the Region 6 first team and six more on the second team.

Junior first-team midfielder Georgie Bickling scored 30 goals with 22 assists in an 11-9 campaign.

“We needed to replace a lot of fire power after losing two players that put in 80 goals in 2020,” said Warren coach Jeremy Bickling. “Georgie really stepped up to generate some much-needed offense. She lead the team in goals (30) and assists (22) and was also top 5 in District 10 in both stats. What the stat sheets don’t show is that instances, she is hustling back helping make a defensive play and then getting back up the field to help finish of the attack or set up a teammate.

“As a father, I’m lucky to have the best seat in the house to watch his daughter do what she loves surrounded by her friends,” he said. “As a coach, she’s the type of player you wish you could clone. She’s the example of hard work, good attitude and showing up each and every game ready to play.”

McDowell won the region and then won the D10 4A championship, Bradford was second in the region and wound up beating Warren, 5-1, in the state playoffs. McDowell placed eight on the first team; Bradford three.

On the Region 6 second team, Warren senior goalie Alyssa Andersen, junior midfielders Ella Ordiway and Audrey Smith, senior midfielder Lennon Dailey, and freshman Emily Davidson and senior Sydney Rex, both on defense, joined Bickling on the all-star list.
