Post-Journal Tennis Classic begins today
LAKEWOOD, N.Y. — The 2021 Post-Journal Tennis Classic, which beings today, marks the 37th year of tennis competition at the facility.
With more than 120 registrations, this is one of the largest draws in recent years. In the Men’s Open Singles Division, last year’s winner, Matt Johnson, looks to defend his title against top competition from the region, including Jai Redkar, Cooper Miller and former Division 1 women’s player Angelica Ochoa.
In the Men’s A /High School Boys Singles there are more than participants. Notable players include Logan Fincher of Warren and Thinus Marias. In High School Girls Singles, Hiba Munir and Sophia Glance are the top two seeds. In Men’s Open Doubles, Pat Grab, a teaching pro from Erie, teams up with Erie’s junior phenom Jonah Ng. Local legends Gary Thompson and Bob Olsen are also in the main doubles draw.
The three day event starts at 4:30 p.m. today with Rising Stars Junior Singles and concludes Sunday with Mixed Doubles play. Spectators are welcome.
