SHEFFIELD — Sheffield was able to claim its first victory since returning from COVID quarantine, defeating Kane, 17-25, 25-21, 15-25, 25-15, 15-12, on Friday.
“I think they got more of the quarantine cobwebs wiped away today,” said Sheffield head coach Melissa Lemay. “It will help their confidence going into next week.”
Kassidy Orinko totaled 22 kills, 24 digs, and three blocks; Lynzie Grubbs added another 11 kills and three blocks; Madeline Roell had 27 digs; and Kadence Steffan fired off five service aces and had 34 assists.
“Such a huge improvement today in the serve receive and defense,” said Lemay. “Passing wins games. These girls just never quit today. This was an exciting way to end our very busy week of volleyball. We also had steady and consistent serving which is so important.”
Lemay acknowledged that the girls still need to improve on their clutch serving in close sets.

“This game is so mental, and learning to control the mental aspect, focus, and keep calm is such an important piece of the game,” said Lemay.
The Sheffield junior varsity lost, 17-25, 15-25.
