Warren posts 5-0 tennis win over Conneaut
The Warren Girls tennis team took on Conneaut on Tuesday and earned its first win of the season, 5-0.
The Lady Dragons dominated Conneaut, not losing a single set, responding well to two losses last week to McDowell and Fairview.
“The girls weren’t too happy with our losses last week to McDowell and Fairview, so they came out with a little fire in them today,” said Warren Coach Tom Pellegrino. “It was nice to see the girls out there playing some aggressive tennis and getting our first win of the season under our belts.”
In singles competition, Sydney Govoni and Mackenzie Lester dominated their matches, both winning the first set 6-0 and they won their final sets, 6-3 and 6-1, respectively. Ella Card won in third singles, with a close first set 7-5, but finished out the victory with a 6-1 win.
Doubles competition was more dominant as the Dragons did not surrender a single game. The duo of Madalynn Perry and Sydnie Cochran got things started off winning 6-0, 6-0, in first doubles and then Sophie Olson and Izzy Heacox closed things out with another 6-0, 6-0 win.
“We played very aggressive in both doubles and singles,” said Pellegrino. “This was a great tune-up match to get us ready for a big region match against Erie High on Thursday.”
Warren takes on Erie High on Thursday. Last year the Lady Dragons split matches with Erie High.
