St. Marys tops Warren 5-2 in Region 9 format
ST. MARYS — Warren picked up a pair of doubles victories in a 5-2 nonregion loss to St. Marys in girls tennis Monday.
Playing the Region 9 format, the teams played four singles matches and three doubles matches. The singles players are also allowed to play in the doubles matches.
The Dragons’ Sydnie Cochran and Madalynn Perry defeated June Chen and Caitlyn Blessel 8-0 at second doubles.
Warren’s Izzy Heacox and Sophie Olson won their third doubles match 82 over Andrea Adamski and Emily Ritler.
St. Marys’ Davon Lion beat Sydney Govoni 6-0, 6-0 at first singles; Emma Gavazzi beat Mackenzie Lester 6-3, 6-2 at second singles; Mya Klaiber topped Iris Kiehl 6-1, 6-0 at third singles and Rachel Fleming beat Madalynn Perry 7-5, 6-2 at fourth singles.
At first doubles, Lion and Mady Wittman beat Lester and Govoni 8-4.
“We definitely did not get the results we were looking for, but got some good match play in nonetheless,” Warren head coach Tom Pellegrino said.
Warren hosts rival Mercyhurst today at Betts Park.
