Redbank Valley too much for Sheffield

SHEFFIELD — Redbank Valley’s Ashton Kahle scored twice on back-to-back Wolverine punts, before the Bulldogs’ offense ever touched the ball Saturday, as Sheffield lost their third straight, 55-6.
“This week at practice, we really had a basic sit-down heart-to-heart with everybody,” said Sheffield head coach Mike Barr. “What do we want to accomplish? We haven’t accomplished what we set out to accomplish yet. Are our goals still the same and how are we going to achieve those goals?”
The first quarter continued to go the defending District 9 champion Bulldogs way as their offense finally took the field with just under seven minutes to play after recovering a Sheffield fumble. It took just one play for quarterback Bryson Bain to find Tate Minich to put Redbank Valley up 22-0. Joe Mansfield would run in a 16-yard touchdown just two minutes later, and Bain would toss another touchdown pass just two minutes after that to Aiden Ortz.
The Bulldogs took to the ground in the second quarter with a pair of rushing touchdowns. Jacob Kundick forced his way into the end zone on a 1-yard score, and Cole Bish took it 12 yards with 5:49 left. At the half, the Bulldogs had a shutout going, up 48-0.
“Our kids, they didn’t quit,” said Barr. “They didn’t quit today.”
Down 55-0 in the fourth, Sheffield was able to put together a lengthy drive that started on their own 16-yard line and finished with a 5-yard touchdown by Gage Mott-Macalush. The scoring drive was highlighted by new quarterback Colby Barr, who had three first-down runs and one first-down pass to Dylan Hardwick. Malique Outland contributed 23 yards on the ground leading to the score by Mott-Macalush as well.

“Malique is the diverse football player,” said Barr of the quarterback switch mid-game from Outland to Barr. “That quarterback change, I give all the credit to the assistant coaches. I had everyone up in the booth and everyone on the sideline in my ear saying that you know what to do. So I listened to my assistants and we put Malique back into that versatile position and, honestly, that’s what he does, and it seemed to work.”
