Dragons win 3rd straight match

The Warren Dragons won their third straight match Thursday with a 5-0 region defeat of Conneaut in girls tennis action.

Sydney Govoni, Mackenzie Lester and Iris Kiehl all earned singles victories as the Dragons improved to 5-6 overall.

The pairs of Madalynn Perry and Sydnie Cochran as well as Izzy Heacox and Sophie Olson both were dominant in doubles play, winning in straight sets and only dropping one game.

“Overall I am happy with our girls play today,” Warren head coach Tom Pellegrino said. “The weather wasn’t the greatest and the wind was a huge factor today but our girls made some adjustments early and gave us the clean 5-0 sweep.”

Warren hosts McDowell on Monday and Erie on Tuesday in more region play.

“Winning three straight is always a nice feeling. We take on McDowell next Monday and would like to keep this streak alive,” Pellegrino said. “McDowell beat us 5-0 early in the season but the team we have now is something different and our girls are looking forward to this rematch. We know it’s an incredible challenge but after wins over Fairview and Grove City they are full of confidence.

Grace Care, Kaelin Hatfield, Tasha Ferry, Elliott Striker and Ashley Plank all won their jayvee matches. Warren is now 10-1 in jayvee matches.
