Knights open season with 14-0 win over Saegertown

RUSSELL -- Junior quarterback Garrett Jensen connected with sophomore Shawn Pascuzzi on a first-half touchdown pass, and junior Keegan Eckstrom found paydirt on a 4-yard run in the second half as Eisenhower opened the 2021 football season with a 14-0 victory over Saegertown on Friday night.
"I thought our offensive line did a great job opening up holes (and) there were some explosive plays by the running backs," Knights head coach Jim Penley said.
Eisenhower did fumble three times to foil excellent scoring chances, but its defense -- led by sophomore Caleb Penley, seniors Mike Jones and Mike Beaver, and sophomore Tucker Lindell -- was up to the challenge.
"I think the defense played phenomenal," Penley said. "They kept us in the game. The defensive line had great penetration, which allowed the linebackers to make plays.
"The fumbles are on me. I haven't spent enough time with these young running backs. They are just young guys trying to make plays. It's hard to fault them for that. We will be working on that."
After both Eisenhower touchdowns, senior Jake Venman booted the extra-point kicks.
The Knights return to action next Friday when they travel to Union City.
