Bergreen Championship begins Friday

OLEAN, N.Y. — The 14th annual Bergreen Junior Match Play Championship begins this Friday at the Bartlett Country Club and concludes with the finals Saturday.

The field of 16 junior golfers was invited based on their play in the recently concluded Penn York junior tournaments.

The top seed this year is Spencer Cornelius of Bradford. Cornelius was the John Forrest Most Outstanding Golfers in the junior circuit.

The second seed is Curtis Barner of Kane, who was the runner-up at last year’s Bergreen Championship.

Michael Davis of Bartlett CC is the No. 3 seed and is the two-time defending champion of the Bergreen Championship.

Bartlett CC’s Kamdyn McClain is the No. 4 seed.

Cornelius will tee off against No. 16 Andrew Forrest at 8 a.m. Friday. At the same time, No. 8 Andy Rohrs and No. 9 Cole Lechner will tee off.

McClain will tee off against No. 13 Collin Porter at 8:10 a.m., at the same time as No. 5 Kaden Heckman and No. 12 Brady Streich.

At 8:20 a.m., Barner will tee off against No. 15 Elliott Wilber. No. 7 Ryan Lechner and No. 10 Jake Franz will get underway at the same time.

Ten minutes later, Davis will tee off against No. 14 Jaxon Morrison. No. 6 Traden Gray will also tee off against No. 11 Talan Stitt at that time.

The Cornelius-Forrest winner will take on the Rohrs-Cole Lechner winner at 12:30 p.m. Friday. At the same time, the McClain-Porter winner will take on the Heckman-Streich winner.

At 12:40 p.m., the Barner-Wilber winner will take on the Ryan Lechner-Franz winner. The Davis-Morrison winner will also tee off against the Gray-Stitt winner at the same time.

On Sunday, the semifinals will begin at 8 a.m. with the finals to follow around 12:30 p.m.

The Women’s Golf Association of Bartlett CC is co-sponsoring the tournament in line with the wishes of longtime member Betty Bergreen.
