What A Night

Large crowd turns out for Tarps Skunks’ regular-season finale

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The community sure turned out for the Jamestown Tarp Skunks’ regular-season finale Wednesday night at Diethrick Park.

But Batavia rained on the fans’ parade.

Blair Frederick and Colin Noeth limited the hosts to four hits while receiving plenty of offensive support as the Muckdogs rolled to a 12-1 victory an announced crowd of 1,450.

Batavia led 5-1 through four innings and then blew the game open with a seven-run sixth inning.

Spencer Marcus, Mitch Fleming and Cameron Conley (double, two RBIs) each had two hits for the winners, and Daniel Burroway drove in a pair of runs for the Muckdogs.

The Tarp Skunks, who were guilty of five errors, received two hits from Mark Tucker, an RBI single from Danny Hosley and another single from Justin Bailey.

Jack Laird, one of seven Jamestown pitchers, took the loss. In two innings had gave up two runs, one earned, struck out two and didn’t issue a walk.

Now it’s on to the playoffs.

The Tarp Skunks, the No. 3 seed, will entertain Geneva at 7 p.m. Friday, back at Diethrick Park. If they win, they will play on the road Saturday night against Saugerties, the No. 2 seed. Should Jamestown prevail in that game, they will play a best-of-3 Championship Series against Amsterdam, the top seed, or another team to be determined. The championship series will take place Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, if necessary.
