Tarp Skunks rout Newark, 19-2

NEWARK, N.Y. — Jamestown fell behind 2-0 after the first inning of Wednesday’s Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League game.

To say the fortunes of the Tarp Skunks got considerably better after that would be an understatement.

Behind three hits, including a home run, and five RBIs from Kevin Koziol, Jamestown scored 19 consecutive runs to roll to a 19-2 victory over Newark at Colburn Park.

The win raised the Tarp Skunks’ record to 24-12, 4¢ games in front of Geneva in the West Division.

Jamestown received offensive contributions from up and down the lineup to support winning pitcher Charlie Nichols, who worked six innings, scattered five hits, walked four and struck out five to even his record at 1-1. Dane Padrnos worked the final two innings.

The Tarp Skunks banged out 17 hits, including three apiece from Padraig O’Shaughnessy (home run) and Elijah Pascual, while Haiden Hunt (double) added two to go along with a pair of RBIs. Also driving in two runs were Danny Hosley, DiMaggio Cazares and O’Shaughnessy.

Starter Danny Owen, one of five Newark pitchers who combined to issue 12 walks, took the loss. Luke Mutz (double) and Frankie DiMartino both had two hits for the Pilots.
