Three county seniors have been voted region all-stars in baseball, including Warren’s Ben Berdine and James Swanson, and Eisenhower’s Jared Beers.
Berdine, who will play for NCAA Division II Mercyhurst University beginning in the fall, was both a first- and second-team all-star in Region 5.
Berdine — also a region all-star in basketball — was a first-teamer at second base. Offensively, he had three home runs and 22 RBIs with a .338 batting average for the 11-9 Dragons.
A second-team all-star at pitcher, Berdine was 6-1 with a 1.71 earned run average, and 72 strikeouts in 41 innings pitched.
Swanson is a second-team all-star in outfield, playing mostly center field. He batted .327 with 17 runs and 14 stolen bases in 17 games played.

Berdine and Swanson were sophomores on the 2019 District 10 champion Dragons.
“I definitely had a great experience with everything and it was a blessing to be a part of so many great teams,” said Berdine. “It all went by so quick, but in that time I made so many memories and have so much to look back on. (Postseason honors) definitely help with the sting, thinking about the awards make you realize how hard you actually worked to get to that point and to be honored like that. Everyone had such a big impact on my career and I am very lucky to be who I am today because of those people over the years.”
Beers was a first-team Region 3 all-star at utility/designated hitter. He batted .431 with 18 runs and 16 RBIs for the 9-8 Knights, who — like the Dragons — advanced to the playoffs.
“I just genuinely appreciate the acknowledgment from the region coaches,” said Beers, who will play football at Thiel. “It means a lot to have them recognize me.
“It is pretty bittersweet to be done with baseball,” added Beers — also a region all-star in football with the Knights. “At the same time, though, there are so many other things going on this summer and fall for me with football that I can focus on those commitments instead. I am lucky to have that to focus on.”
