MEADVILLE -- The Kinzua sluggers 12U took home the championship at the annual Don Wood Memorial Tournament.
Seven runs in the third inning led the Kinzua Sluggers 12U past the Meadville Bandits 12U 9-1 in the championship game on Sunday. Landon Wood, Wyatt Swan, Cooper Charles, Allen Eaton and Liam Hanson each had RBIs in the big inning.
In that third, Wood singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run; Swan singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run; Cooper singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs; Eaton doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run; and Hanson singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
Swan led things off on the pitcher's mound for the Kinzua Sluggers. The hurler surrendered one run on two hits over three innings, striking out five and walking one.
The Kinzua Sluggers racked up 13 hits in the game. Wood, Charles and Oliver Stump all managed multiple hits. The squad was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
The Sluggers were 4-0 on the weekend.
