Warren falls to McDowell; Youngsville downs Iroquois

In the last of six games in seven days, Warren finished the regular season with a 12-2 loss to visiting McDowell on Wednesday at Legion Field.

The Dragons (10-8 overall and 7-7 in Region 5) now get five days off before the District 10 4A playoffs begin on Tuesday.

Freshman Eric Dippold made his second start of the season and allowed six runs (five earned) and seven hits in an inning and two-thirds. Archie Teconchuk threw the other 3-1/3 innings, allowing six runs (five earned).

A five-run McDowell fifth ensured the 10-run rule victory. Nathan Hayes and Jackson Hower had three hits each in the 11-hit attack.

The Trojans walked six times and struck out just once in five innings.

Micah Passmore was 2-for-3 for Warren. His RBI single in the third cut the lead to 7-1. In the fourth, Ben Sowa walked and moved to third on Owen Blum’s base hit. Sowa would score on an infield groundout.

McDowell threw three arms at Warren, and the defense held the Dragons in check, committing one error. Warren, on the other hand, committed eight errors.

McDowell — 12-4 overall and 11-3 in Region 5 — will compete in the 6A playoffs.

CJ Wyman’s seventh-inning grand slam cut the junior varsity deficit to 10-6 McDowell, but that’s as close as the Dragons could get. Wyman, Aidan Zdarko and Paul Smith had two hits each in the loss.

KEMERY SHINES

FOR EAGLES

YOUNGSVILLE — Alex Kemery scattered seven hits, struck out eight and didn’t issue a walk as Youngsville downed Iroquois, 12-2, on Wednesday in a high school baseball game.

Kemery, who helped his own cause with two hits, including a triple, was the beneficiary of plenty of offensive support. Leading the way was Nathan Lucks with three hits, while Keegan Mesel and Matt DeSimone (double) added two apiece.

Jason Beers led the Eagles with three stolen bases. As a team, they collected nine.

Hunter Alderjon led the Braves with two hits. Reilly Brown pitched five innings and took the loss.
