Warren baseball games postponed
Less than two weeks after Warren softball had to postpone games due to COVID protocols, the high school’s baseball team will reschedule games “due to … COVID issues,” according to the school’s athletic director Jeff White.
Warren’s softball team last played on Saturday, April 24, and is scheduled to host Conneaut at 5 p.m. Saturday at Lady Dragons Field. This will start a string of nine games in 13 days.
Warren Area High School is not the only school in the district facing COVID quarantine issues with its sports teams, but that does not necessarily mean there is a COVID case on a team.
“There are no ‘teams’ in quarantine. There are participants from some of the our spring athletic teams in quarantine,” the district’s athletic director, Rick Gignac, said following Warren softball’s announcement. “If these ‘teams’ do not have enough athletes to compete, then some of the scheduled games will have to be rescheduled. All region contests will be made up first and non-region games will be secondary and rescheduled, if time allows. All baseball and softball regular-season contests must be played on or before May 20.”
The rescheduled and canceled games for Warren baseball — and tennis — teams were announced on Wednesday.
Following are the updated schedules due to weather and COVID issues, according to White:
¯ Baseball at Harbor Creek, originally scheduled for May 6 has been moved to May 15 with a 1 p.m. varsity start with JV to follow.
