PORT ALLEGANY — It has been a record year for Sheffield sports, and that is no different this spring with Emily Leichtenberger breaking two school records in less than two weeks.

Leichtenberger, who captured the almost four-decade old girls shot put record earlier this month, took the discus record over by a half-inch with an impressive 104 feet 5.5 inches throw Tuesday night facing off against Port Allegany and Otto-Eldred.

“I’ve had a feeling all year that she was going to do it,” said Sheffield head coach Jason Snell. “Her not being able to compete last year fueled the fire even more. She’s an ultimate competitor. She’s been that way since seventh grade. It’s kind of just something we’ve always seen coming, and her dad being a right there as a coach too is pretty special.”

Despite the dominating performance in not just discus, but also shot put and javelin by Leichtenberger, the Wolverines lost by one to Otto-Eldred 47-48 and by 24 to Port Allegany 50-74.

Emily Foster won three individual events, with a high jump of 4 feet, 8 eight inches, long jump of 13 feet, 2 inches and a victory in the 200 meters. Lexi Goldthwaite took the triple jump crown at 29 feet, 8 inches. Rounding out the victors for the Wolverines was the 400-meter relay team of Madison Mitchell, Kassidy Orinko, Lexi Goldthwaite and Emily Foster with a time of 1:00.

The Sheffield boys fell to Port Allegany 77-65, but defeated Otto-Eldred 70-61 to split on the road. Lucas McNeal had a long jump 18 feet, 5 inches, and a high jump of 5 feet, 6 inches to earn victories in both events. Gage Mott-Macalush won the discus with a throw of 102 feet, 2 inches.

Sheffield will go on to compete in the Warren County Championships today at War Memorial Field.

Starting at $4.00/week.
