Warren tennis team downs Titusville

The Warren Boys tennis team improved to 3-0 with a 5-0 victory over visiting Titusville on Thursday.

Logan Fincher impressed at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ean Tudor. Captain Wes Kiehl continued the rout with his own 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lance Enright at No. 2 singles.

Senior Luke Smelko kept up his undefeated year with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Brian Rae, Max Harrison and his partner, Ian Darling, had a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first doubles, and Will Strassburg and Seth Conarro completed the varsity win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at second doubles.

“We are still improving every day” head coach Travis Myler said. “We didn’t get a chance to thank McDowell coaches Beck and Heinlein for hosting us for a scrimmage with them last week. Playing the top AAA team left in the district really set the tone for the boys to up their games. We consider ourselves lucky every day we get to step on court and want to make sure we leave it all out there because we know it could all change in a moment. Last years cancellation continues to weigh heavily on us and the boys haven’t let up on their intensity once this season.”

Warren returns to action today, hosting defending District 9 champions St. Marys.

Warren was undefeated on the day, with jayvee winners including Mark Lynds, Abe Wolf, and Otis Watt in singles. The doubles pairs of Owen Strandburg and Jared Peterson, and Camden Drayer and Seth Lester were victorious on the day as well.
