Stuart, Lytle homer for Warren girls

MEADVILLE — Warren scored seven runs in the second inning en route to an 18-4 Region 5 win at Meadville on Thursday.

“I was a little worried going into the game that the weather might work against us; a little bit of rain and snow can turn the tide in any game real fast,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart. “Luckily, the girls didn’t let that happen and they took care of business. Everyone is doing their part. Each one of them wants to step up big and come through for the team and it’s fun to watch when it happens.”

After starting pitcher Kelsey Stuart set down the top of Meadville’s order three-up, three-down, she hit a home run in the top of the second — a seven-run inning in which nine batters reached. Lexi Hoffman added a triple in the frame.

Miken Beers had a bases-loaded double and Carly Beers tripled in the win.

Warren walked 14 times in the game, and chased those runners around with five of nine hits going for extra bases.

Hoffman finished with two hits. Alix Lytle also had two hits, including a home run in a six-run fifth that ensured the 10-run rule in the cold and sleet.

Stuart struck out nine in the win for Warren (4-1, 3-1 Region 5). Meadville is 0-3.

“We have a big region game with McDowell next week, so we have to keep the momentum going and be ready,” said Coach Stuart.
