Warren swept Cranberry in a doubleheader on Saturday, and it didn’t take extra innings this time.

The Dragons improved to 3-1 overall with a 14-2 game-one win at Lady Dragons Field, and held on for an 8-7 win the second game.

After extra innings to start the first two games of the season, the bats came alive on Saturday.

“When every player in your lineup has a good day at the plate, it’s going to be a good day,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart. “Not only did we hit, but we hit the ball hard as well.”

Kelsey Stuart had three hits and three runs scored at the plate. After Cranberry scored twice in the top of the first, she shut the Berries down from the circle and let Warren’s bats do the damage.

Katie Madigan, Alix Lytle and Carly Beers also reached three times each (two hits apiece), and the Dragons hit six doubles; Lytle had two.

“Carly Beers had a breakout day,” said coach Stuart. “She looked confident and she attacked the ball. Kelsey, Alex Neureiter and Alix Lytle continue to hit solid.

“In the second game, Miken Beers came in and played solid at second and also put the ball in play a couple times,” Coach Stuart said. “Halee Minweaser made a fantastic diving catch in right field as well. Seeing that kind of effort makes a good day a great day.”

The second game wasn’t quite as lopsided. Warren built an 8-1 lead with Kelsey Stuart starting, but the Berries started chipping away. Cranberry scored four times in the fifth inning off relievers to cut the lead to 8-5, and twice more in the seventh with two outs.

Stuart threw the first four, and was relieved by Lexi Hoffman and Carly Beers in the fifth. Stuart returned for the sixth and seventh innings to earn the win and the save.

Carly Beers had three more hits the second game, and Lytle and Neureiter two each.

Maria Anderson and Rylee Coe had RBI hits to cut the lead to one, but Stuart struck out the final batter. Stuart had 13 strikeouts over 11 innings on the day. Anderson and Coe had two hits each for Cranberry in the second game.
