Several Warren YMCA Dolphin swimmers competed at the YMCA Regional Junior Age Group Championships the weekend of March 12-14. Swimmers had to meet challenging qualifying times to enter. All five swimmers dropped their times, competing against swimmers in person from other YMCA programs across Pennsylvania.
Swimmers performed in preliminary events, with the fastest eight finishers moving on to the finals in the 11-12-year-old group and the top 16 moving on in the 13-14 group.
Cara Pillitieri competed first, reaching 23rd in the 500-yard freestyle. Drake Niemetz swam for 29th place in the 100-yard freestyle and 26th place in the 50-yard freestyle. Chris Orth swam for 22nd place in the 200-yard freestyle.
Landon Frederes swam for 11th place in the 100-yard backstroke. His time earned him a new Warren team record, previously held by Hugh Harrison, in that event. He also swam for ninth place in the 50-yard backstroke, just missing the finals.
Lucy Harrison reached the finals in all six of her events. Her best performance was a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. She swam for fifth place in the 100-yard breaststroke while breaking a Warren team record previously held by Paige Johnson. Harrison also accomplished fifth place in the 50-yard backstroke, seventh place in the 50-yard butterfly and seventh place in the 200-yard individual medley. She reached eighth place in the 100-yard backstroke and was able to lower her own team record.
