Sheffield boys fall to Union City

UNION CITY — Sheffield fell back to .500 with a tough 54-48 boys basketball loss against Union City on Saturday.

The Wolverines held the lead through the first half, outscoring the Bears 29-21, before allowing Union City to tie it up by the end of the third. The Bears went on to score 16 in the fourth while holding the Wolverines to 10.

Union City’s Matthew Bennett led the comeback for the Bears, scoring 20 of his 24 points in the second, including two from the perimeter. Eight of Bennett’s 24 points were from the foul line.

Sheffield head coach Jordan Copley stressed after the game that his players need to refrain from getting into foul trouble as much as possible.

Tyler Hepinger and Connor Finch were the Wolverines’ top scorers with 17 apiece. Lucas McNeal had a solid game, putting up 8 points. Sheffield lost the three-point battle as the Bears sunk seven treys.
