Ordiway’s trey lifts Warren to road win

OIL CITY — Warren’s Parks Ordiway hit a go-ahead 3-pointer to cap a furious comeback in the Dragons’ 48-46 win, Tuesday at Oil City.

Ordiway hit the bomb in front of Warren’s bench with 10 seconds left. After a timeout with five seconds remaining, Oil City missed a trey and a layup at the buzzer on the final possession. The Oilers led 35-27 after three quarters and by as many as 11, 44-33, in the fourth. Five Warren 3-pointers, including three from Ordiway, helped the Dragons outscore Oil City, 21-11, in the fourth.

“Tough place to come out with a victory for how bad we stunk it up early,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine. “We executed better in the fourth quarter and got some open looks and knocked them down. Close fourth quarters build character and teamwork; hopefully this keeps us moving in the right direction.”

Trailing 46-45, Warren fouled Oil City’s Jacob Hornbeck. Hornbeck missed both free throws and Warren point guard Tommy Nyquist rushed it up court to Ben Berdine, then Bryce Blair, who was fouled on the floor.

On Warren’s inbounds play, the ball got knocked past half court and recovered by JT Blum in a diving scrum; he passed to Nyquist, who dribbled up court and hit Ordiway for the swish and 48-46 lead.

Ordiway finished with 11 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth. Blum had 4 points, and Berdine and Nyquist hit 3-pointers in the fourth.

Oil City was 2-of-6 at the line in the fourth and 11-of-23 for the game, and Warren capitalized.

Berdine had 10 points and five rebounds and Nyquist 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and seven assists.

In all, Warren hit nine 3-pointers to Oil City’s one.

Warren is 8-4 overall and 4-4 in Region 5. After a four-game winning streak, Oil City is 6-6 and 2-3 in the region.

Blair had 13 points and Kody Vega 11 in Warren’s 40-33 junior varsity win, earlier Tuesday.
