Madigan bound for state meet
Warren diver wins District 10 2A title with 424.45 points
ERIE — Friday night offered a long and nerve-wracking wait for Katie Madigan at the District 10 2A Diving Championships at McDowell High School, but it was worth it.
After posting a score of 424.45 points, Madigan had to watch 11 more divers, but her total was enough to give her the gold and earn a spot to compete at the state meet at Cumberland Valley High School in two weeks.
“We have had a lot of people involved and Katie is a super hard worker,” said Matt Madigan, Katie’s father.
Earlier in the year Madigan set Warren’s six-dive record in 1-meter diving with 292.2 points, but that total is for a six-dive list while competitors at the district meet have an 11-dive list.
“She was on the edge of her seat, but she handled it like a true champion,” Madigan said.
Aiding Madigan to her first district gold have been Adrienne Barmore, her diving coach from a season ago, and Howard Brook who has offered his help this season.
Also in the pool on Friday was freshman Izzy Heacox, who finished in 15th place with 256.50 points.
