‘Crisp’ Dragons roll to 8th straight victory

Warren looked good on both ends of the floor in a 69-38 non-region win over Clarion on Friday at Warren Area High School.

Ben Berdine finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in the Dragons’ eighth straight victory. Parks Ordiway hit 5 3-pointers and finished with 19 points for Warren (14-4).

Clarion (1A) lost its fourth straight to fall to 11-7 overall.

“We were crisp early versus the zone,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine, whose Dragons led 39-15 at halftime.

Warren has lost to just two teams — twice each; to first-place Harbor Creek and second-place Fairview (both 4A) in Region 5. The Dragons are firmly in third place in the eight-team region.

The Dragons’ three highest-scoring games have come in the last seven days.

“Less than 10 turnovers gives us a great chance for a ‘W,'” said Coach Berdine.

In addition to pacing the offense with five assists, freshman point guard Tommy Nyquist held Clarion’s leading scorer, senior Calvin German, to 11 points. He came in averaging 20.5 per game.

Payton Barnes added 8 points and five assists for the Dragons.

Owen Becker scored 16 points and Kody Vega 15 as Warren held off Clarion, 45-44, in the junior varsity game.
