Sheffield boys roll; Warren girls fall

SHEFFIELD — Tyler Hepinger scored 11 of his game-high 21 points in the third quarter as Sheffield pulled away from Curwensville for a 55-33 win Monday.

The Wolverines led 10-7 after the first quarter and 24-14 at halftime before putting the game away with a 16-4 third quarter.

Lucas McNeal and Tony Richards each chipped in 11 points in the victory. Connor Finch had 8 points and eight rebounds; Hepinger had four rebounds and two assists; McNeal had six assists; Richards had six rebounds; and Nolan Alabaugh had four assists and three steals.

Ty Terry led Curwensville with 19 points, including five 3-pointers.

WARREN GIRLS FALL

ERIE — Four players scored in double figures and Villa Maria led 9-0 early en route to a 60-28 nonleague victory over Warren on Monday afternoon.

Rachel Majewski, Carissa Dunham and Ava Waid each had 11 points while freshman Jayden McBride — the younger sister of the Las Vegas Aces’ Kayla McBride — added 10 for the Victors (5-0).

Villa Maria led 17-6 after the first quarter before a 19-4 second quarter gave the hosts a 36-10 halftime lead.

Junior Riley Childress scored 11 of her game-high 14 points in the third quarter for the Dragons. Emma Ruhlman added 7 points, six rebounds and three assists while Childress also had three assists in defeat.

Warren returns to action at Harbor Creek on Thursday.
