Sheffield boys pull away for win over Ike
RUSSELL — Connor Finch led three players in double figures with 19 points to spark Sheffield to a 63-43 victory over Eisenhower in a boys basketball game Thursday night.
Tyler Hepinger added 16 and Tony Richards chipped in 15 for the Wolverines, who outscored the Knights, 23-12, in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Eisenhower, which was forced to put its junior varsity team into action because the varsity squad is in a COVID-19 quarantine for one more week, held its own for most of the contest. Sheffield led 12-10 after the first quarter and 25-19 at intermission.
The Wolverines began the third quarter on an 8-0 run when the Knights’ Kael Hunt sank three 3-pointers — he had 12 points in the period — to keep the hosts within 10 points heading into the final period.
The fourth quarter was all Wolverines, however, as they went on a 16-4 run. led by Hepinger’s 9 points, to put the game away.
The Knights were paced by Hunt’s 17 points and Kris Bunk’s 10.
