Berdine scores career-high 31 for Warren boys

Times Observer Photo by Jon Sitler Warren’s Ben Berdine goes up for two of his career-high 31 points in the Dragons’ 64-47 win Saturday over Punxsutawney at Warren Area High School.
Ben Berdine scored a career-high 31 points in Warren’s second win in 24 hours, 64-47, on Saturday over Punxsutawney, at Warren Area High School.
After scoring 25 in a Dragons win on Friday over Youngsville, Berdine scored 13 of his 31 in a 19-14 Dragons third quarter on Saturday afternoon.
“Tommy’s (Nyquist) two 3s to start the third were huge… and that kind of got their press moving and Ben had (13) points the rest of the third,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine, whose Dragons are 4-2 overall.
“I thought we did a much better job in the second half. Ben got some good looks in the high post.”
Warren committed eight first-half turnovers, but held on to a 29-25 halftime lead. The Dragons committed just one more turnover and led by as many as 21 in the second half.
“Parks (Ordiway) had a big 3 to start the fourth quarter,” said Berdine.
Warren went on a 10-0 run to begin the fourth, with Ordiway nailing two of his four 3-pointers.
In the Dragons’ second game without injured senior Payton Barnes, Ben Berdine added 12 rebounds, Ordiway had 14 points, Nyquist nine points and seven assists, and JT Blum 10 assists and four rebounds.
Justin Rich had 14 points and eight Dragons in all scored in a 50-18 junior varsity win earlier Saturday.
The Dragons are at Titusville in Region 5 on Tuesday and host Corry in a region game on Friday.
