Warren tops Oil City in tennis home finale

Maddie Rodgers kicked off a 4-1 tennis win for Warren against Oil City in the Dragons’ final home match of the season.

Rodgers won her first singles match, 7-6, 6-1.

“Once Maddie won the tiebreaker in the first set, her confidence was high and she started rolling,” Warren head coach Tom Pellegrino said. “She was very aggressive with her groundstrokes moving her opponent all over the court.”

At third singles, Warren’s Sydney Govoni won, 6-3, 7-5.

“Sydney has improved immensely over the season,” Pellgrino said. “She’s hitting a much bigger ball making her opponent go on defense the whole match.”

Both doubles teams of Amanda Gray and Kamryn Moore as well as Madalynn Perry and Jackie Peterson were also victorious.

“Oil City made some adjustments in the second set pushing our girls a little harder but they played strong at the net and pulled out a nice win,” Pellegrino said about the first doubles, adding about second doubles, “Maddie and Jackie had complete control of this match from start to finish. They served and returned the ball great today.”

Sophie Olson won at singles during JV action while doubles teams Katie Moore and Izzy Heacox, Isabella Shingler and Mackenzie Lester, Iris Kiehl and Ashley Plank, Natasha Ferry and Madison Hamler and Hailey Jenkins and Sophie Olson all also won.
