Warren doubles teams win three matches at districts

ERIE–Two area doubles teams traveled to Villa Maria on Thursday for the District 10 tournament.

Maddie Rodgers and Amanda Gray, Warren’s first singles pairing, won a pair of matches before falling to top-seeded Mercyhurst, 3-8, in the quarterfinals.

Rodgers and Gray topped Wilmington, 8-3, in the first round.

In the second round Rodgers and Gray rose the occasion against No. 5 seed Hickory, winning 9-7.

Warren’s second doubles team of Madalynn Perry and Jackie Peterson were down big in their first round match, 1-6, before rallying back and winning the match 9-7 against a tough Sharon team.

“This was a fantastic comeback for our girls,” said coach Thomas Pellegrino.

Perry and Peterson would fall to top-seeded Villa in the second round, 1-8.

“Both doubles teams should be very proud of the way they played today,” Pellegrino said. “Madalynn and Jackie had one of the best comebacks of the season and Maddie and Amanda are the first pair to make it to the quarterfinals in five years. This was a great way to end our tennis season.”
