Sheffield volleyball improves to 13-3
SHEFFIELD — The Sheffield Wolverines defeated Brockway 25-20, 25-12, 25-18, Monday evening.
“The focus tonight more than anything was coming together as a team, and I think they were successful at that,” said Sheffield head coach Melissa Lemay. “We have to be all in, one team to have lasting success. Getting them to buy into that is very important to me.”
Kadence Steffan had 22 assists. Sheffield combined for 31 kills on 94 attempts, with Kassidy Orinko had 10, and Lynzie Grubbs added eight. Orinko and Grubbs, along with Lexi Goldthwaite combined for 12 blocks. Orinko also had 19 digs and Annabel Sheldon had 12.
Emily Leichtenberger had eight aces and the Wolverines were able to get consistent serving out of Lily Lauffenberger, Maddy Roell, and Syrena Antonuccio.
“It was a good match for us and puts us at 13-3,” said Lemay “They played well and together tonight, and each one of them contributed to the win. We had a good balance of offensive and defensive success, and we need to continue that in order to get deep into the D9 playoffs.”
Sheffield will play Union today, followed by hosting Clarion-Limestone Thursday for the first round of the D9 Single A Playoffs.
Sheffield junior varsity won in three 25-19, 23-25, 17-15.
Maddy Roell had 12 digs. Hannah Grinnell had five kills and three aces. Emily Foster and Cali Silves contributed four kills with Foster adding five blocks. Syrena Antonuccio had eight digs and two aces.
