Sheffield sweeps DuBois in volleyball

DUBOIS — Sheffield was a 25-20, 25-17, 25-14 winner over DuBois Central Cathlic in girls volleyball action Tuesday.

Kassidy Orinko led the winners with seven straight service points in the first set and eight in the second.

Despite Orinko’s solid performance, Sheffield head coach Melissa Lemay expressed that both service and attack errors plagued Sheffield in the first set.

“Annabel Sheldon came up and served the last five points to finish it out,” said Lemay. “We had a strong night at the net.”

Lynzie Grubbs led with 10 kills and two blocks. Orinko and Emily Leichtenberger each contributed eight kills. Leichtenberger also led with 13 digs while Kadence Steffan added 25 assists.

Sheffield won the junior varsity match, 25-10, 20-25, 15-12.

Both teams are 10-1 on the year and Sheffield will host AC Valley on Thursday.

YOUNGSVILLE FALLS

COCHRANTON — Host Cochranton topped Youngsville, 25-13, 25-14, 25-15.

Samantha Wilhelm had 12 digs; Kamryn Weissinger seven digs, seven kills and one ace; while Kenzie Olewine had nine digs; five kills and an ace for Youngsville.

“We worked well on the court tonight, communicating and covering. In game three, we held strong with only a three-point deficit but ultimately lost the match due to a string of errors in the last remaining seven points,” Youngsville coach Misty Weber said.

Cochranton won the jayvee contest, 25-13, 25-2.

DRAGONS SWEPT

Olivia English had seven kills, six digs and an ace, but Meadville swept Warren, 25-22, 25-8, 25-17, on Tuesday.

Also for the Dragons, Jordan Sitler had five kills; Carly Beers had four kills and a block; Halee Mineweaser chipped in 19 assists and eight digs; Katie Madigan had 16 digs and an ace; and Hannah Shattuck added three kills and three digs.

Summer Lucks had 11 digs and two aces while Lauren Dolan had four aces and 18 assists as Warrenw on the JV match, 25-17, 25-15. Kylie Fehlman chipped in four kills and five blocks; Kirsten Johnson had three kills; Lexi Hoffman added two kills and two aces; Alexia Bowers had a kill and an ace; and Lauren Shattuck had an ace and two digs for Warren.
