Sheffield improves to 7-1 in volleyball

YOUNGSVILLE — Sheffield’s volleyball team continued to roll with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-13 win over Youngsville on Monday to improve to 7-1 on the year.

Kadence Steffan had 32 assists, 10 digs, and two aces; and Lynzie Grubbs nine kills and two blocks; while Emily Leichtenberger, Annabel Sheldon, and Kassidy Orinko each had seven kills and Lexi Goldthwaite five.

“We have been working on minimizing our mistakes, and tonight we had just six errors on 85 attack attempts and only four missed serves,” said Sheffield head coach Melissa Lemay. “Maddy Roell and Lily Lauffenberger both served and played excellent defense tonight. Strong serve receive and defense allowed us to run our offense effectively.”

For Youngsville, Samantha Wilhelm had 16 digs; Andrea Sveda six kills, four blocks, one ace and one kill; and Jen Wilson added 14 assists, six digs, one kill and one ace.

In the jayvee match Sheffield was a 25-5, 25-10 winner, improving to 7-1 as well.

In the first game, Kassidy Orinko served from point seven through 18 with six aces, and Syrena Antonuccio served the rest of the way from 20-25 with three aces. In the second game, Halle McLaughlin served from 12-20.

Sheffield will host Curwensville at home Tuesday evening.
