“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.”

And that’s right where Warren’s football team is right now after 61-0 and 45-6 losses to Oil City and Meadville, respectively.

Now, the 1-3 Dragons try to get back up at 0-5 Titusville at 7 p.m. today.

“We are good to go, attitude is good, the team is in good spirits, (and) health-wise for week number 5, we are in excellent shape for this late in the season,” said Warren head coach Mark Morelli. “Titusville is like we are; they have had some challenges throughout their season with inconsistency and they are hungry for their first win.”

Three weeks removed from its only win against Franklin, the Dragons want to find something that works and stick with it.

“After four weeks, we are still trying to find our offensive identity,” said Morelli. “We have an idea what we want to try to do, but we also have a plan B if we need to resort to something different.

“Over the first four weeks, the play of Alan McAlister has stood out for our team,” he said. “He is our best lineman; there is no reason to see anything change vs. Titusville. We need major output from Micah Passmore, James Swanson, and look for Landon Douvlos to play a big role vs. Titusville. But, as in the previous four games, the main group that needs to step up is our line on both sides of the ball. I know we sound like a broken record saying that over and over each week, but it is true. We have had two weeks now to get a look at some new faces. This is the week, hopefully, we can mesh together as a unit.

Douvlos and Passmore have both played quarterback recently with Passmore receiving when Douvlos is under center.

“You can expect more of the same, yes,” said Morelli. “It gives us some options, some different packages, some different looks, yet we would like to be able to settle into a groove and get into a rhythm. We have not been able to do that yet, but we are getting close.”

Warren hasn’t played Titusville in recent seasons. Losing their last seven in 2019, the Rockets have now lost 12 straight; two losses this season are to Meadville and one each to Oil City and Conneaut, which are the three teams that have beaten Warren.

“Ideally, we’d like to win the rest of our remaining games and finish the season at 5-3,” said Morelli. “That would give us a winning record and, even though we did not make the playoffs, given the way this year has gone 5-3 is not necessarily satisfying, but it is acceptable. But we have to take each week one game at a time. When you’re 1-3, you have to work for everything a little bit harder.”
