Maddie Rodgers turned in a near-perfect match at first singles to highlight Warren’s 5-0 tennis victory over Conneaut.

Taking advantage of every short ball and ending points early, Rodgers defeated Heidi Mayor, 6-0, 6-0.

“Our girls all played aggressive today and made sure to bring home a victory,” Coach Thomas Pellegrino said. “Our whole team only gave up seven games total today. This was a much-needed win for us after two tough losses on Thursday.

Boys soccer

Tied with Eisenhower at half, Meadville scored three second-half goals to post a 4-1 victory in a boys soccer game Saturday.

Konner Sayre tallied a pair of goals for the winners, while teammate Alex Wood recorded one. The identity of the fourth goal scorer was unavailable.

Darren Glotz scored an unassisted goal for the Knights in the first half.

The loss drops Eisenhower’s record to 6-5.

Cross country

OIL CITY — Led by Alex Hummel’s first-place finish, Eisenhower ran to victory over Oil City in a varsity cross country meet on Friday.

Hummel toured the 5,000-meter course in 17:55, four seconds ahead of teammate Ethan Kellogg. Dylan Lux of Oil City was third in 18:18.

The Knights finished with 19 points compared to 40 for Oil City.

In the girls varsity race, Oil City placed eight runners in the top 10, led by Kennedy Liederbach, who finished the layout in 20:51, one minute in front of teammate Olivia Mumford. Chloe Lasecki paced Eisenhower with a time of 25:48, good for fourth place.

Oil City posted 15 points compared to 50 for Eisenhower.

In the 3,200-meter junior high boys race, Elijah Brosius led Oil City to victory with a first-place finish in 11:19.

Joe Mistretta was the top finisher for the Knights with a time of 11:58, good for fourth place. Oil City finished with 20 points compared to 37 for Eisenhower.

In the girls junior high race, Kierra Wismar of Eisenhower toured the course in 13:06 to lead the way.

Ella Speece of Oil City was second in 13:28.

Oil City won the meet, 24-31.
