Sheffield runs volleyball record to 8-1 after home victory

SHEFFIELD — Sheffield was a 25-21, 25-19, 25-17 winner over Curwensville to improve to 8-1 on the year in high school volleyball action Tuesday.

Emily Leichtenberger had an excellent game with eight kills, no attack errors, three aces, no service errors, and 12 digs while Lynzie Grubbs added six kills and Kadence Steffan had 20 assists to help the Wolverines.

“Everyone contributed to our win tonight,” said Sheffield head coach Melissa Lemay. “We needed to dig deep a couple times and not get in our own heads, but they were able to battle and get their eighth win on the season.”

Annabel Sheldon added 18 digs for Sheffield.

In the junior varsity match the Wolverines were 25-21, 25-20 winners. Hannah Grinnell and Kassidy Orinko led with four kills each to improve Sheffield to 8-1.

Sheffield hosts Eisenhower on Friday.

YOUNGSVILLE FALLS

YOUNGSVILLE — Rocky Grove was a 25-10, 17-25, 25-17, 25-16 winner over Youngsville.

Andrea Sveda had 14 kills, three blocks and two digs for Youngsville, while Jena Wilson added 25 assists, five digs and three aces.

Rocky Grove was a 24-26, 25-21, 16-14 winner in the jayvee matchup.

Leading Youngsville in that match were Mia Rafalski with five aces, four digs and two kills and Ashley Peterson with five aces and three digs.

CONNEAUT SWEEPS DRAGONS

CONNEAUT — Conneaut was a 25-18, 25-16, 25-20 winner over Warren.

Leading the Dragons was Hannah Shattuck with eight kills, 10 digs and three aces; Katie Nadigan had nine digs and one ace; Halee Mineweaser added17 assists and three digs; Jordan Sitler added four kills and one block; and Olivia English had four kills; and Carly Beers chipped in three kills.

In the junior high match, Conneaut was a 25-15, 25-16 winner. Warren was led by three kills from Kylie Fehlman, 12 digs from Summer Lucks, while Brooke Edwards had two kills and two digs.
