Phils Insider report:  Moniak headed to bigs

The first overall pick from the 2016 amateur baseball draft is headed to Philadelphia, according to Jim Salisbury of Phils Insider.

Mickey Moniak, who has family connections in Warren County, joined reliever Connor Brogdon on the major league roster to replace the injured Jake Arrieta and Kyle Garlick, who were placed on the 10-day injured list.

According to Salisbury, Moniak was not on the Phillies’ 40-man roster, but was added to the Phillies’ 60-player pool on Aug. 30, the day before the trade deadline.

Moniak, 22, hit .252 with a .741 OPS, 11 home runs and 67 RBIs at Double A Reading in 2019, Salisbury reported.
