Keystone has no trouble with Sheffield

SHEFFIELD — The Sheffield Wolverines kicked off their 2020 season at home Saturday hosting Keystone.

Sheffield turned the ball over eight times in an 86-0 loss.

The Panthers were able to rush for three touchdowns, return two punts for touchdowns, and force two safeties all within the first quarter. Keystone running back Nick Weaver scored twice on just two carries for 31 yards.

Along with the turnovers, the Panthers were able to hold the Wolverines to negative yardage and sacked Sheffield quarterback Michael Mihalic six times.

Despite the loss, Sheffield head coach Chris Korbar knew coming into this game that the Wolverines would be facing an even steeper uphill battle than in previous seasons due to the loss of the co-op with Abraxas as a result of COVID-19.

“They’re first year kids, so they’re going to take any information they can and try to turn it into a positive,” Korbar said. “I teach a lot of resilience. A lot of resilience and perseverance. They soak it up.

The Wolverine will travel to Curwensville next week. Korbar is confident that his team will continue to grow as a team.

“They’re letting this one go,” Korbar said. “They’re going to move forward.”
