Ike 8th-graders shine on court
The Eisenhower eighth-grade basketball team, composed of five seventh-graders and only one eighth-grader, played Oil City in its season opener Wednesday night.
Despite the age and size disadvantage, Eisenhower used its speed and ballhandling to post a 22-18 victory. Eisenhower did a great job controlling the tempo of the game, forcing numerous turnovers with solid defense. Tracey Jakubczak led the Knights with 7 points followed by Laney Font with 6, Sam Childs with 4, Olivia Wallace with 3 and Clara Steinberg with 2.
Meanwhile, the Eisenhower seventh-grade team came out with a 29-12 win over Oil City, led by Lainey Belcher, who poured in 18 points.
Keeley Alcorn scored 4 points followed by Clara Steinberg, Lainey Font and Sam Childs with 2 points each.
