Eisenhower downs Franklin, 6-3, to even record at 1-1

LANDER — The Eisenhower girls soccer team downed Franklin, 6-3, on Wednesday to even its record at 1-1 on the young season.

Franklin opened the scoring nine minutes into the match on a goal by Hailey Yard. Both teams passed well, but Eisenhower took advantage of a missed pass by Franklin and moved the ball into scoring position and sophomore Ellet Eastman scored five minutes later.

The net would be found just two minutes later when Yard scored once again to put Franklin back on top, 2-1.

But Eisenhower sophomore Cassie Smelko scored three minutes later to tie the game again.

Franklin found the back of the net following a nice steal bysenior Leah Peterson scored just 3 5 seconds later to give Eisenhower a 3-2 lead, which it took to halftime.

Yard scored her third goal of the game five minutes into the second half to tie the score 3-3.

The game remained tied for the next 10 minutes as both teams settled down and played solid defense, but Eisenhower junior Katie Elmquist scored to put Eisenhower up 4-3. Eastman added her second goal at the 12-minute mark to put Eisenhower up 5-3 and it pitched a shutout the rest of the way. Peterson added her second goal of the game with eight minutes left to make the score 6-3 which held up the rest of the way.
